60's 70's Garage, Rock, Blues, Soul & Country

I live in College Station TX. I collect vinyl records starting back in the early 70's. I like many genres of music. Hooked on classic retro film. I listen mostly to music from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. See My Archive Favorites for a wealth of free music downloads. Previously all saved favorites were a simple text description until the new site makeover in 2015.

A description of the IUMA from the excellent zounds.com site: The Internet Underground Music Archive was better known by the acronym IUMA. The IUMA was started in 1993 by three students at the University of California at Santa Cruz: Jeff Patterson, Jon Luini and Rob Lord. The three men worked together to create an online music archive that would help musicians and bands who weren't signed by a major label. The site allowed these unsigned artists to upload files and send them to fans. The site...

Considered THE archetypal sensationalized anti-drug movie, but it's really an exploitation film made to capitalize on the hot taboo subject of marijuana use. Like many exploitation films of the time, "Reefer Madness" tried to make a quick buck off of a forbidden subject while skirting the Motion Picture Production Code of 1930. The Code forbade the portrayal of immoral acts like drug use. ( The illegal drug traffic must not be portrayed in such a way as to stimulate curiosity...

The word cruisin' doesn't appear in the dictionary, but it's a familiar word to millions of people who did it. CRUISIN' THE FIFTIES AND SIXTIES, is a year-by-year recreation of pop music radio during the years 1955 through 1970. Each album is not just a collection of the top pop music of a particular year, but a total recreation by a top disk jockey (of that year) doing his original program over a major pop music station. That means actual commercials, promotional jingles, sound effects,...

Bloodied noses! Car crashes! Police harassment! Jealous boyfriends! These were just a few of the hazards that faced the beat groups who roamed Australia during the mid-sixties. Despite these obstacles (perhaps because of them) a number of homegrown acts came to epitomise the down and dirty sound of the Antipodean underground. Released in 2004 by Melbourne Community Radio Station 3CR, the book (by Iain McIntyre and Ian D Marks) and accompanying tribute CD (featuring 19 of Melbourne's toppest...

An episode of the masterpoxen 1950's Children's TV show "Howdy Doody", originally aired April 6, 1951. In this episode, the gang searches for an Oil Well. This episode also features original commercials and Network ID, plus lots of comedy, puppets and the "Howdy Doody Old Time Movie". Not bad, though clearly a light childrens show.

Originally released in 1995 on Billy Childish's Hangman's Daughter label, this is the universally acclaimed debut LP of the legendary (in as much as they didn't actually exist) Hove (ex-Cambridge) group. Some call it garage, some call it punk, some call it garage-punk, and others leave out the hyphen. Who cares?! This is uh da bombe.

“Psychedelic Promos & Radio Spots” is an outa-site eight-volume series that includes hundreds of (very slightly) trippy radio commercials for shuttered music clubs, new records and movies, upcoming concerts and discontinued products from a half-century ago. You'll also hear then-popular rock groups performing groovy advertising jingles for cereals, soda, shoe stores, jeans, hot dogs and deodorant. (My personal favorites are Iron Butterfly for Ban roll-on, and the Rolling Stones for Rice...

Garage Rock of the highest caliber, complete with gasoline fumes. With seventeen ultra secret-illegal hits from the best trashcanband in Fredericksburg, VA, where Link Wray first displayed the monumental force that is the power chord. Rock n Roll Love is a rare thing to come by, but when these four kick things off, you better bust out your poncho. The Crypts owe a lot to everyone who came before them. Not just the Sonics, the Wipers, and Screamin' Jay Hawkins, but also Abraham Lincoln,...

Muddy's "unplugged" album was cut in September of 1963 and still sounds fresh and vital today. It was Muddy simply returning to his original style on a plain acoustic guitar in a well-tuned room with Willie Dixon on string bass, Clifton James on drums, and Buddy Guy on second acoustic guitar. The nine tracks are divvied up between full rhythm section treatments with Buddy and Muddy as a duo and the final track, "Feel Like Going Home," which Waters approaches solo. What makes...
